UI Test Skill
Use this skill to run UI tests on web applications using the ui-test-engineer subagent with Playwright.
Prerequisites
Step 1: Ensure Dev Server is Running
Before running tests, verify the development server is running:
# Check if a common dev port is responding
curl -s -o /dev/null -w "%{http_code}" http://localhost:5173
# Or check other common ports: 3000, 8080, 5174, 5175, 5176
If the server is not running:
- Find and start the dev server (usually
npm run devor similar) - Wait 2-3 seconds for startup
- Note the actual port being used (may differ from default)
Important: The server may use a different port if the default is busy. Check the server output for the actual URL.
Running Tests
Use the Task tool with subagent_type: ui-test-engineer:

For comprehensive end-to-end testing:

Return a detailed PASS/FAIL report for each test area.
Tips
- Always verify the port: Check dev server output for actual port
- Wait for server: Give 2-3 seconds for startup before testing
- Be specific: Provide exact actions and expected outcomes
- Request console check: Always ask for console error verification
- Use tables: Request tabular format for easy scanning of results
- Test in isolation: Focus on one feature area per test when debugging
Troubleshooting
Server not responding
# Kill processes on common ports
lsof -ti:5173 | xargs kill -9 2>/dev/null
lsof -ti:3000 | xargs kill -9 2>/dev/null
# Then restart the dev server
Wrong port
Check the dev server output for lines like:

Tests timing out
- Ensure server is fully ready before testing
- Check for slow network requests or heavy initialization
- Consider increasing timeouts for specific actions
