TODO Collector

Scan the codebase for technical debt markers and generate a prioritized report.

Overview

This skill finds TODO, FIXME, HACK, and XXX comments across the codebase, categorizes them by priority and type, and produces a structured report for tracking technical debt.

Instructions

Step 1: Scan for Markers

Use Grep to find all technical debt markers:

CopyGrep pattern: (TODO|FIXME|HACK|XXX|BUG)[\s:]+

Search in common source directories: src/, lib/, app/, or project root.

Step 2: Categorize Findings

For each match, extract:

• File path and line number
• Marker type (TODO, FIXME, HACK, XXX, BUG)
• Comment text - the description after the marker
• Author (if available from git blame)

Assign priority:

• Critical: FIXME, BUG
• High: HACK, XXX
• Normal: TODO

Step 3: Generate Report

Present findings in this format:

Step 4: Optional - Suggest Actions

For each finding, optionally suggest:

1. Summary statistics
2. Grouped findings by priority
3. Each finding shows file, line, type, and full comment

• This skill only reads and searches, it does not modify files
• For large codebases, consider filtering to specific directories
• Pair with code review skill for deeper analysis of critical items
