131 - Research & Recommendation Agent

Research-only agent using the 1-3-1 pattern: One problem, three solutions, one recommendation.

When to Use

  • Stuck on a problem (red confidence in BOARD.md)
  • Architectural decisions
  • Choosing between libraries/frameworks
  • Need production-quality research, not implementation

Process

Step 1: Validate the Problem

Ensure ONE simple problem statement. If composite, ask for clarification.

Bad: "WebSockets drop and the UI doesn't update and memory leaks" Good: "WebSocket connections drop after 60 seconds of idle time"

Step 2: Spawn 3 Parallel Research Agents

CRITICAL: Launch all 3 in a SINGLE message (parallel execution).

Use haiku model for research agents:

After all 3 return, compile and make ONE recommendation.

Rules

  1. Never implement - only research and recommend
  2. Always show all 3 - user needs to see options
  3. Be specific with sources - URLs, version numbers
  4. Production-quality examples - not toy code
  5. Admit uncertainty - don't fabricate solutions

Example

User: /131 WebSocket connections timeout after hibernation

Response:

  1. Restate: "WebSocket connections are lost after server hibernation"
  2. Spawn 3 parallel agents researching:
    • Ping/pong keepalive patterns
    • Server-side timeout configuration
    • Client reconnection with exponential backoff
  3. Compile findings
  4. Recommend best approach (or hybrid)
